We love working on children’s book illustration, especially when they’re colourful, meaningful books that allow us to work in our favourite styles. We’ve worked with Dr Tamara Pizzoli and The English Schoolhouse publishing house for several years now, on so many collaborations that we’ve almost lost count. We are big believers in Tamara’s mission to diversify children’s literature and provide representation for young people, and we love being able to contribute our illustration to her cause and bring life to her words.
One of two books that we’ve created the children’s book illustration for Tamara and The English Schoolhouse that have been picked up for publishing by internationally renowned publishing house MacMillan Publishers through their children’s books imprint Farrar, Straus and Giroux, is B is for Breakdancing: An ABC Book of Ways to Shake What Your Momma Gave You. A colourful book of global dances and celebrations, it’s a vibrant and vivacious way to teach children about cultures around the world, through dance.
We loved working on this book with Tamara, and we can’t wait to work on the new version that’s being published by MacMillan. If you’re looking for illustration for your children’s book, we would love to hear from you.

WordPress Web Design for Arctic Shores
WordPress Web Design is one of our specialities at Howell Edwards. Although we are experts in a number of CMS, we prefer WordPress web design for client-managed website development as it allows us to create beautiful, functional websites that are easy and intuitive for our clients to update and maintain.
We recently had the pleasure of working with psychometric game pioneers Arctic Shores to redesign and develop their company website. This was a new challenge for us, as we hadn’t previously worked with a science-focused brand, let alone a business that utilises cognitive neuroscience and psychometrics. We begin all of our design projects by researching the client’s industry to ensure that we can deliver a product that will offer everything required by both our clients and their potential customers and users, and functionality here was paramount. Key features that our client requested for the new site included a clean and modern WordPress web design, online demo submission, and integration of analytical marketing systems.
The previous Arctic Shores website wasn’t working for them as a business; it didn’t allow interested customers to make contact, it wasn’t responsive across different devices, and the general design was extremely generic – something that they are most definitely not. We redesigned the entire WordPress site from scratch, taking it back to what the company is about – the products, and the science. We designed animated banners to show gameplay and analytics, illustrated infographics to explain benefits of their products and solutions, and illustrated every member of the Arctic Shores team for their “Meet the Team” page to add a personal feel to the site. We developed everything to be fully responsive; we know that up to one third of the visitors viewing their site are doing so from a mobile device, so it’s essential that their experience is just as good as a desktop user. We kept the site design stripped down and modern, using the Arctic Shores recognisable branding and colour palette, and concentrating on accessible navigation and fast loading times.
The site now has a refreshed and simplified look, complete with enhanced content fully optimised for every media device, desktop through mobile. This allows customers to view product details, psychometric information, request demo keys and contact Arctic Shores through the site. The website backend administration area allows the client to observe visitor and customer analytics, so they can feed this information back into offering the service that their customers are looking for. We fully designed and developed the a bespoke WordPress theme for the website, concentrating on accessibility and responsive design to give an inclusive and interactive user experience. We’re so happy with the result and we’re thrilled that our clients are happy, too.
