Howell Edwards are big supporters of female bosses in every industry all over the World. Working in an industry that is mostly dominated by men, we appreciate the importance of allying with other women directors, CEOs and entrepreneurs to support and promote each other. We’re always looking to work with more women running businesses and side hustles that need design and web assets, so if you’re looking for illustration for girl bosses, please get in touch!
One of our favourite Female Bosses is Dr Tamara Pizzoli. We’ve been working with Tamara, for the past six years, through The English School House, her boutique publishing house. In that time we’ve illustrated six children’s books, designed a number of marketing materials and merchandise items, worked on several collaborations for various other projects in different media, and designed and developed three fully responsive websites for different branches of her company. She is one of the most productive and passionate individuals that either of us have ever met, so there’s been no shortage of opportunities to work with her and we’ve savoured each and every one of them.
The English School House actively works to produce diverse literature, depicting different cultures, backgrounds and stories; this is something we at Howell Edwards truly believe in, representation is incredibly important and absolutely essential. Two of the books that we brought to life for Tamara have been picked up by internationally renowned publishing house MacMillan Publishers through their children’s books imprint Farrar, Straus and Giroux, allowing us to achieve a lifelong goal. The very first book we worked on with Dr Pizzoli, The Ghanaian Goldilocks, also won the Silver prize in Multicultural Fiction at the eLit Book Awards, which is a wonderful achievement.
We have illustrated pretty much everything for Tamara, from international cities to Ghanaian cuisine. One of our favourite projects for The English School House so far was illustration for B is for Breakdancing: An ABC Book of Ways to Shake What Your Momma Gave You. The book was written by Dr Pizzoli as an alphabet book for children, complete with our illustrations of dances from around the world, featuring persons of different cultures and nationalities. We also loved the series of Cross Stitch style illustrations that Dr Pizzoli commissioned from us for her Granny Stitch series of sayings. The series allowed us to work with a new style of illustration, which is always something we’re excited to do.
We love working with Tamara, it’s been one of our longest and most rewarding business relations at Howell Edwards. We are always keen to work with more clients who are passionate, excited and motivated. We believe that collaboration is the most rewarding part of the design business, and we try hard to nurture long relationships with our clients; it’s made all the easier by awesome people like Tamara. If you’re looking for illustration for girl bosses, we’d love to hear for you.
